सकीं

We planned skiing in Isaberg, Sweden a place 250 km far from Copenhagen. It was chosen because it was the only possible place for one day skiing trip. We started by bus at 6 in the morning with 5 more people- including a German guy, Chinese girl and a Danish girl. It was quite cold at that time but our enthusiasm was at full swing. I was a little scared too, as it could be quite dangerous sometime if you fall while skiing. People in Europe do it from very early age so they learn by the time they grow up like us J

Any ways, we reached there by 10 and our class was supposed to be started at 11. We already paid for 1 hrs instruction class which I think was necessary before going to the battle field. It was fun to learn the easy basic steps on how to move forward at slope and how to break. I learnt it quickly and started thinking that-it’s not a big deal now. Well, we will talk about it later J

So finally we were ready for it. We chose to ski on the easiest slope there and there was a lift to take us up whole day, again and again. Now the real story of falling started. I fell in the first attempt as I speeded up a little bit. My technique of breaking myself was not working effectively at higher speeds. Hence, the only way to stop myself was to ‘fall’. Another problem was that now the slope was not plain and my skiing strips were going in one direction and my upper body in another, making me fall every time. You can imagine the condition of my mind which was not able to tell my body what to do with 2 meter long ski strips which allows your feet to move just in one way-either forward or backward. Slowly I learnt to lift up my legs one by one to readjust the direction of ski strip. It was better now. Still my body was not completely with my mind who was confused what to do. It is difficult to fall on your back or chest when you wear 2 mt long skis. So all you can do is to fall on your side when u can’t do anything else and that’s what I started doing every time I was in trouble. This also becomes difficult with higher speeds to adjust your body so that u can at least fall comfortably. I was really scared now if I break one of the legs. Fortunately I did not.

Finally I was tired of falling like this and stopped this finally. I think it was really learning experience and I remember it as fun-filled too. We started back by 4 evening and reached Copenhagen by 8. A tiring but fun-filled day.
